If you use Google Play Newsstand on your Android device, you should keep an eye out for a major new update that’s now rolling out.
Play Newsstand 4.0 is now hitting Android devices, complete with a fresh new look. Launching the app will now bring up a personalized greeting with the current weather (which can be expanded to show a five-day forecast) and a “Briefing” section with the top five stories as well as highlights from multiple subjects.
The app also includes a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. This includes For You, Library, Explore, and Read Later functions. The For You section includes the weather and Briefing that I previously mentioned, while Library includes a Topics & Sources section that’ll include news from sources that you’ve selected as well as a Digest section that shows the top three stories from each of your sources and subjects.
Some other notable features of Play Newsstand 4.0 include a search bar that’ll suggest trending topics, an option to keep the For You content downloaded for offline reading, and toggles for Data Saver and autoplaying videos.
This Play Newsstand 4.0 update is quite a bit different from the previous version. The personalized greeting with the weather is a nice touch, and the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen can make it easier to jump between different sections of the app. To check out the update for yourself, keep an eye out for Play Newsstand 4.0 in the Play Store.
