Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 official along with Quick Charge 4.0

Qualcomm today announced the new Snapdragon processor that you’re probably going to see in several flagship smartphones next year.

The Snapdragon 835 is now official. Qualcomm is collaborating with Samsung on production of the SD835, which uses Samsung’s 10 nanometer FinFET process, gives the chip a smaller footprint inside a phone to make room for other components (like a larger battery) or just to make the device slimmer.

Qualcomm and Samsung also tout that the 10nm FinFET process offers a “more advanced chip design,” which is expected to bring improvements in battery life.

The Snapdragon 835 will begin appearing in devices in the first half of 2017.

Also announced today is Quick Charge 4.0, the next version of Qualcomm’s fast charge technology. Available with the Snapdragon 835, Quick Charge 4.0 is touted as getting you five hours of battery life with just five minutes of charging. If you have more time, Qualcomm says that Quick Charge 4.0 can get you from zero to 50 percent charge in about 15 minutes.

Compared to Quick Charge 3.0, QC 4.0 is up to 20 percent faster while charging up to 5°C (41°F) cooler.

Finally, Qualcomm says that Quick Charge 4.0 is compliant with USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery standards, which should help to ensure that your charger and your phone stay safe when you’re fast charging.

Quick Charge 4.0 will be available in the first half of 2017.
