Now that the iPhone 7 is in consumers’ hands, the rumor mill is turning its attention to 2017 and the iPhone 8.
Apple is reportedly asking its suppliers to increase their output of “thinner organic light emitting displays” and to give Apple prototype displays with higher resolution than Samsung’s displays. That’s according to sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal, who add Apple is currently considering 10 prototypes for its next iPhone.
Curved displays are growing in popularity lately. Samsung’s Galaxy S7 edge is perhaps the most well-known model, and Samsung also added a curved display to the Note 7 before that device was discontinued. We’re seeing curved display phones from other manufacturers, too, including BlackBerry and Xiaomi. As such, it’s no surprise to hear that Apple is considering adding a curved display to the iPhone 8, which could help to minimize the device’s screen bezels.
It’s worth noting again that Apple is said to be prototyping this curved display, so it’s possible that the next iPhone won’t have a curved display.
Have you used a device with a curved display like the S7 edge or Note 7? If so, do you like curved displays?
