The Evo name used to be reserved for flagship HTC smartphones on Sprint, but now HTC is using it for the international version of a Sprint phone that’s got a non-Evo name.
The HTC 10 evo is now official, and it’s basically the international version of Sprint’s HTC Bolt. The 10 evo offers the same features as the Bolt, including a full metal unibody design and IP57 rating for water and dust resistance. It’s also missing a 3.5mm headphone jack, meaning that you’ll rely on the 10 evo’s USB Type-C port for plugging in headphones.
Other features of the HTC 10 evo include a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 Super LCD 3 display, octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, pro mode, and dual LED flash, and an 8-megapixel front camera. There’s 3GB of RAM included along with 32GB of built-in storage, and you can use a microSD card if you’d like even more storage. Powering the 10 evo is a 3,200mAh battery.
HTC isn’t saying much about when the 10 evo will launch or how much it’ll cost when it does. Sprint is selling the HTC Bolt for $600, though, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see HTC 10 evo carry a similar price tag internationally.
It’s disappointing that the HTC Bolt is a Sprint-exclusive in the US, as there are likely some non-Sprint customers that’d like to carry this big-screen HTC phone. That’s not going to be a problem internationally, so if you live outside of the US and have had your interest piqued by HTC’s newest phone, keep an eye out for its launch in the near future.
