Instagram launches live video streaming

Instagram feed Android

Instagram has rolled out several new features in 2016, and today the photo-sharing service is gaining two more new tricks.

Instagram Stories now supports live video. Because the live video is part of Instagram Stories, which features photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours, the live videos are ephemeral. When you’re done streaming, your live video will disappear from the app.

To go live, you’ll need to swipe right from your Instagram feed to open the camera, then tap “Start Live Video”. You can share for up to one hour. When you start a stream, your friends can get a notification so that they can hop into the stream. If someone you’re following starts a live video, you’ll see “Live” under their profile photo in your Stories bar.

Live video in Instagram Stories will roll out globally over the coming weeks.

The other new Instagram feature is support for disappearing photos and videos in Instagram Direct. With Instagram Direct, you can send photos and images to specific people so that only they can see them. Now you can also send photos and images that’ll disappear from your friends’ inboxes after they’re viewed.
