BlackBerry is a company that’s strongly associated with physical QWERTY keyboards, but BlackBerry hasn’t shown the keyboard much love lately with the recent releases of the full-touch DTEK50 and DTEK60. That’ll be changing soon, though.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen has confirmed that his company has a new phone with a physical keyboard in the works. “We have one keyboard phone I promised people,” Chen said to Bloomberg TV. “It’s coming.”
There aren’t many other details about this BlackBerry keyboard phone available right now, but given BlackBerry’s recent Android releases, it seems likely that this QWERTY-equipped phone will run Android, too. That said, the big news here is that BlackBerry is prepping a new smartphone with a hardware keyboard. Those are pretty rare nowadays, so the news that BlackBerry is cooking one up is a big deal.
