Are you happy with your smartphone's battery life?

We've seem to have reached a leveling-off point for smartphone batteries at this point. We all know that advancements are being worked on behind-the-scenes, as we try to work out a few more hours, even minutes, from the batteries in our most important devices, but, as far as right now goes, it looks like software is the main driver when it comes to getting a full day's life out of our handsets.

Software tweaks and improvements, refinements, and other optimizations all make it possible for batteries to last a full day anymore. Bigger smartphones also make it a bit easier, too, because that means we can put bigger batteries inside, but not everyone wants a 5.7-inch smartphone. For the folks that prefer something a bit smaller, which, inherently, means a smaller battery, the likelihood that it won't make it through the day grows.

Usage matters, of course. Some people will use their smartphone more than others, while others simply use it when they want to check up on a social network, play a quick game on the way home, or listen to music. But that's why software is so important. Making sure that the operating system we're using isn't impacting the battery life needlessly is just as important as how powerful that battery is.

Google has tried to implement changes within Android itself to help battery life, for better or worse, and Apple's focus has always been on optimizing the hardware and software -- sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't, as far as battery life is concerned. While I've never typically had any issues with the battery in my iPhone lasting me as long as I need it, I also know that a lot of people out there feel it is necessary to have a battery pack handy, just in case.

Apple even sells a battery pack for its iPhone.

We all know there's room for improvement, and, even more than that, we all, at some point or another, wish for that improvement to arrive already. But we're left waiting. So while we wait, I wanted to reach out and find out how you're getting along with the battery in your phone these days.

I'm using an iPhone 6s for my daily driver until the Pixel XL arrives, and I can safely say that, more often than not, the battery life is just fine. But that wasn't always the case. I actually had to replace my first unit with this one, because the battery life always felt awful. When I took it in, the Apple Store employee agreed and exchanged the phone. Now it's fine, and I don't feel the need to carry a battery pack, which is a good place to be.

But, how about you? What phone are you using, how long have you had it, and how is the battery life now? Are you able to get through a full day on a regular basis? Do you feel the need to carry around a battery case? Let me know how your battery life is doing these days.
