Google Keyboard updated with Material Design themes

Google Keyboard Material Light Dark themes

Google’s Material Design-ification of its Android app catalog continues today with Google Keyboard.

Google Keyboard version 4.0.21173.1568296 is now rolling out to users. The update brings with it a refreshed app icon, adjustable long press delay and two Material Design themes that offer light and dark configurations.

The two new themes are very different from Google Keyboard’s old Holo themes in that there are no spacers between the keys. However, they do fit in with Android 5.0’s Material Design much better than the old Holo themes.

The new Material themes may be a bit tougher to use at a glance than the Holo themes, but some folks will likely think that they look better than the Holo themes. The good news is that you can easily switch between them depending on the mood that you’re in.

Google Keyboard can be found in the Google Play store below. If you don’t feel like waiting for the update, the folks at Android Police have posted an .APK file that you can download and sideload.
