BlackBerry, Samsung come together to beef up Android security

BlackBerry Passport review

BlackBerry and Samsung aren’t names that we typically see together in the mobile space, but today BlackBerry revealed that it’s teaming up with Samsung on a new security solution.

Early in 2015, BlackBerry and Samsung will release a new security offering that ties together BES12 enterprise mobile device management tools that’ll work with Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets with Samsung KNOX built in. The two companies aim to use their security offerings to give enterprises a single tool that can manage both BlackBerry devices and Samsung’s Android-powered hardware.

When using the combination of BES12 and Samsung KNOX, enterprise customers will get BlackBerry security features on Samsung devices, improved Android security to fight malware that bypass typical security, separation of personal and business data and enhancements to user deployment.

As part of this agreement, Samsung plans to resell BlackBerry’s BES12 management tools to customers, while BlackBerry will include KNOX support in its Gold BES12 subscriptions.

It’s always good to see mobile companies team up to improve their offerings for consumers, and so while BlackBerry and Samsung’s partnership will only really affect enterprise users, it’s still a welcome sight. I’m sure that Samsung is happy to have its own KNOX software integrated with BlackBerry’s tools, and I’m sure that Sammy doesn’t mind that the move could help boost its enterprise offensive against Apple, too.
