In addition to taking the wraps off of the N1 Android tablet, the folks at Nokia today made its Z Launcher app available to the public.
Nokia Z Launcher is available in the Google Play store to phones running Android 4.1 or higher. The app lets you scribble letters on your screen and bring up related apps and contacts, and it also attempts to learn what apps you’ll need throughout the day based on your usage patterns.
Nokia has been testing Z Launcher in a closed beta for several months now. Here’s what the company says is new in this latest version:
- Faster – We looked at every possible area where we could make small speed improvements from optimizing on specific handsets to obscure things like “finger tracking latency”.
- Better Prediction – Without getting too technical…we found ways to bring more context into our algorithm and to hone the algorithm data to just keep the important elements that give users the best results.
- Refined Scribble – We improved the recognition and response time, (it’s faster!)
- We now run on rooted devices! – This was the #1 most requested feature in our forum.
Android is all about customization and making your device yours, and so it’s always nice to see new launcher options arrive in Google Play. I haven’t had a chance to try Z Launcher quite yet, but I look forward to seeing just how accurate its learning ability and app suggestions are.
Have you given Z Launcher a try yet? If you haven’t, you can snag it from the Google Play link below.
