Samsung held its developer conference this week in San Francisco, Calif., and while the announcements made at the event cover a wide range of markets, there were a few mobile-related goodies worth taking note of.
First up, Samsung revealed the Advanced S Pen. As its name suggests, the Advanced S Pen is an improved version of the S Pen stylus that comes with Samsung’s Galaxy Note devices. Sammy says that the Advanced S Pen has double the sensitivity of the regular S Pen and can recognize rotation, speed and tilt. The advanced stylus also has advanced editing, capture and recognition to make what you write look more like your actual handwriting.
The Advanced S Pen is compatible with the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. Samsung also plans to offer a new S Pen SDK so that developers can take advantage of the Advanced S Pen’s features.
Samsung also shed more light on the Gear VR virtual reality headset that it originally showed off earlier this year. The Gear VR Innovator Edition will launch in the U.S. in December for $199. It’s worth noting that the Gear VR requires a Galaxy Note 4 so that it can use the phablet’s 5.7-inch Quad HD display to display content.
Finally, Samsung revealed Flow, which is a bit like its version of Apple’s Continuity. Samsung Flow lets you hand off information and content from one Samsung device to another, including watches, phones, tablets and TVs. In the video demo shared by Android Central , we can see a restaurant address being sent from the Yelp app on a tablet to a phone, and a phone shooting a YouTube video to a tablet.

Overall it looks like Samsung’s got some nice goodies on the way. The Advanced S Pen could make sketching and note-taking even better on new Note products, and Flow makes sharing content between devices super easy. It’s also worth noting that Samsung says that it will make flow available to other platforms in the future. Finally, Gear VR may not be something that everyone experiences due to its Note 4 requirement, but any progress in VR is good to see.
