You've been able to tap on Instagram hashtags to check out all posts on a certain topic for a while now, but today Instagram is making it even easier to follow hashtags.
Instagram now lets you follow hashtags just like you follow people. This means that posts using the hashtag that you follow will pop up in your feed as if they were coming from a single person.
To follow a hashtag, simply search for a topic or tap on a hashtag in a post. You'll then see a "Follow" button near the top of your screen. Top posts from that hashtag will begin appearing in your feed, and some of the latest stories will start showing up in your stories feed, too.
The ability to follow hashtags looks like a nice addition to Instagram. You've always been able to check in on a hashtag whenever you want, but by following a hashtag, you'll eliminate the steps of having to manually seek out the hashtag each time you want to see what's going on with it.
Also of note is that Instagram is now testing a "Recommended for You" section that'll show posts your friends have liked as well as posts that Instagram's algorithm thinks you'll enjoy. This section will appear in your Instagram feed with all of the posts from friends that you follow.
Instagram has confirmed to The Verge that this feature is in testing, but hasn't said when or if it might roll out fully.
