Apple currently offers two App Stores, one for iOS and one for macOS, and developers that want to be in those two stores must develop separate apps for each. That might soon change, though.
Apple is planning to allow developers to create one app that'll work on iPhones, iPads, and Macs, according to sources speaking to Bloomberg. The project is reportedly codenamed "Marzipan" and is being worked on as part of the next major iOS and macOS updates.
The feature may be announced at WWDC next year, which will likely take place in June, and it could start rolling out as early as 2018.
Apple's "Marzipan" is still unconfirmed, but if it does happen, it could be big for iOS and Mac users. While the iOS App Store is full of solid apps that are regularly updated, the same can't be said for the Mac App Store. Creating separate apps for iOS and macOS can be a lot of work and not all developers are willing to do that work, but being able to create one app that'll run on both platforms could help the Mac's app selection flourish.
