Amazon Fire TV devices can now browse the web

Amazon Fire TV official all-new

Last month, some Amazon Fire TV devices gained the ability to browse the web after getting Amazon's Silk browser. Now it looks like all Fire TV owners will be able to do the same.

Amazon says that starting today, December 20th, all Fire TV devices can browse the web in more than 100 countries and territories. They'll do so using the Firefox and Silk browsers, with Amazon touting the Silk browser as being "optimized for Fire TV by designing a true television viewing experience that is best enjoyed from the couch."

Fire TV owners can download the browsers from the Fire TV.

It's always good to have more features on a device, and so it's great to see web browsers hitting the Fire TV. That's especially true when you remember that YouTube is scheduled to be pulled from Fire TV devices next month. Fire TV owners should still be able to get to YouTube using their devices web browser, though, as Amazon specifically says in its announcement today that users can access "video sharing services".
