Huawei and Xiaomi in talks to sell phones on AT&T and Verizon

Huawei P9 review

Huawei and Xiaomi are major players in mobile markets internationally, but they don't have as much of a presence in the U.S. A new report claims that the companies are trying to change that.

Huawei and Xiaomi are in talks with U.S. carriers about selling their flagship smartphones as soon as 2018. That's according to sources speaking to Bloomberg, who add that the carriers in conversations with Huawei and Xiaomi include AT&T and Verizon.

The sources of this report cautioned that talks are still happening and that it's possible that no deals will happen.

Getting their smartphones on U.S. carrier shelves could be big for Huawei and Xiaomi, especially if they're able to strike deals with Verizon and AT&T, the two largest carriers in the U.S. Many consumers in the U.S. still buy their phones from their carrier, so that's the way to go if a company wants to gain a foothold in the U.S. market.

Huawei has been selling some of its phones in the U.S. unlocked through retailers like Amazon, while Xiaomi phones are largely nonexistent in the U.S. It'd be nice to see both of them come stateside and give consumers more options when buying a new phone, so hopefully some carrier deals can be made.
