Sprint strikes Pokémon Go deal to turn stores into PokéStops, new monsters coming soon

Pokémon Go iPhone

Pokémon Go might not be quite as huge right now as it was when it launched over the summer, but there are still people playing it, and Sprint wants those Pokémon trainers to come to its stores.

Sprint today announced that its struck a deal to become the first US partner of Pokémon Go. What this means is that Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Sprint at RadioShack stores will become PokéStops where trainers can collect new items, and there will be Sprint-sponsored Gyms for battling. Sprint also plans to offer recharging stations at its stores for Pokémon Go players.

These PokéStops and Gyms will begin appearing at Sprint stores on December 12.

One other notable detail of today’s announcement is that Niantic, developer of Pokémon Go, has confirmed that on December 12 it’ll announce details about new monsters coming to Pokémon Go.

Today’s news is big for Pokémon Go players, as the addition of Sprint as a partner means that there will be more than 10,500 new PokéStops and Gyms to visit. That means more items and more leveling. And for Sprint, it means more people hanging in and around its shops, which the carrier hopes will end up with some folks switching to or at least considering Sprint if they’re not on the big yellow carrier already.
