Instagram live video streaming rolling out to everyone in the US today

Instagram live video streaming

After first launching live streaming capabilities last month, Instagram is now making the feature available to everyone.

Instagram has announced that everyone in the US can now use the app’s live streaming feature. To access it, you can update your Instagram app and then swipe right from your Instagram feed to open the camera. Tap the “Start Live Video” button and your live stream will begin.

Live streams last for up to one hour. When your stream begins, your friends can get a notification. You can also see when someone you’re following is hosting a live stream by looking for a “LIVE” icon in your Stories bar.

We’ve seen several apps launch their own live streaming capabilities lately. Twitter has its Periscope app, Facebook has its own Live offering, and now Instagram — which is owned by Facebook — has a live video feature of its own. We’ll have to wait and see if Instagram’s feature gains traction with consumers, but the fact that you’ll see live streams at the top of your Instagram feed when you launch the app could give the feature a boost.
