Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 update compared to Android 4.4 on video

At the tail end of last week, a video surfaced that gave us a preview of what Android 5.0 will look like on the Samsung Galaxy S4. If you need more evidence to believe that Lollipop will be a huge change from KitKat on the S4, though, another video has been released that serves that purpose.

SamMobile has posted a new 8-minute video that demonstrates many of the differences between the Android 5.0 (above right) and Android 4.4 (above left) builds for the Samsung Galaxy S4. Looking at the lock screen, things don’t look terribly different, but once you dive into the rest of the phone, you’ll see how many changes Samsung has made.

On Lollipop, users will take fewer steps to change the wallpaper and set widgets on their home screen. You’ll also be able to change their home screen transition effect: “None” is the default transition, but you’ll be able to select “Card Stack” or “3D Rotation” transitions. Samsung has also redesigned many of its core apps, including the Settings and Phone apps, giving them a much improved and more Lollipop like design. You’ll also be able to swipe between menus in those apps, unlike in KitKat.

Last week, we’d gotten an inkling that Android 5.0 on the Galaxy S4 was going to be a big upgrade, but today’s video drives that point home. The Galaxy S4 may be getting middle-aged for a smartphone, but the bump up to Lollipop should make it feel like a completely new device.
