Google in 'productive discussions' with Amazon about keeping YouTube on Fire TV

Amazon Fire TV hands-on video review

Google revealed earlier this month that it'd be pulling YouTube access from Amazon's Fire TV devices next month. Now it looks like that may not end up happening.

Google said today that it's in "productive discussions" with Amazon with regard to "an agreement for the benefit of our mutual customers." No other details of Google and Amazon's talks were given.

The Amazon Echo Show lost its YouTube access earlier this month and the Fire TV is slated to lose it on January 1, 2018. Today Amazon confirmed that it would resume sales of the Google Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra two years after pulling the devices from its shelves, though, which could aid its discussions with Google.

It's disappointing that YouTube has been pulled from the Amazon Echo Show, and it'll be an even bigger deal if its pulled from Fire TV devices, too, which are likely more widespread than the Echo Show. Hopefully Google and Amazon can come to an agreement that's good for their mutual customers.
