New month, new Android distribution numbers.
Google today posted its Android platform distribution stats for December 2017. These numbers measure which versions of Android were used to access the Play Store during the 7-day period ending today, December 11, 2017.
Android Oreo (8.0) saw a modest usage increase from last month, moving from 0.3 percent in November to 0.5 percent in December. That increase is likely thanks to both the rollout of Oreo to some new devices and continues sales of Google's newest Pixel phones.
Android Nougat (7.0 and 7.1) saw an increase in usage from last month, too, growing from 20.6 percent in November to 23.3 percent in December. All other previous versions of Android saw their usage decrease from last month to this month.
Android Marshmallow (6.0) usage fell a little more than one percentage point to finish at 29.7 percent in December, while Android Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) dropped to 26.3 percent usage.
Android KitKat (4.4) slipped less than half a percent to finish at 13.4 percent usage for December, while Android Jelly Bean (4.1-4.3) fell to 5.9 percent. Rounding things out is Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) which held steady at 0.5 percent usage and Android Gingerbread (2.3) which slipped to 0.4 percent usage.
