Apple 'Files' app for iOS 11 briefly appears in App Store

Apple Files app iOS 11 leak

We’re now just hours away from Apple’s WWDC 2017 keynote, and some details on what might be announced for iOS 11 have trickled out.

A new Apple app listing for an iOS app named “Files” was discovered overnight by developer Steve Troughton-Smith. The listing briefly appeared in the App Store and included an icon of a blue file folder and a requirement of iOS 11. Unfortunately, no screenshots of the app were included in the listing.

While there’s not much known about this Files app, it suggests that Apple will give iOS users some form on on-device file management. That would be a big deal for iOS, especially for power users that want to use the iPad as a replacement for a traditional PC or laptop.

Apple iOS drag and drop leak

It’s also been discovered that Apple may be planning to add drag and drop functionality to iOS. When filing a bug in Apple’s Feedback app, there’s an option to select “Split View/Drag and Drop” for the question “Which of the following are you having an issue with?” Adding a drag and drop feature could make using multiple apps at once much better and, again, could make power users quite happy.

Finally, an entry for Apple’s Activity app briefly appeared in the App Store overnight, too. That suggests that Apple may be adding Activity to the list of pre-installed apps that you can remove from your iOS device if you’d like.

Apple’s WWDC 2017 keynote begins today at 10:00 am PT/1:00 pm ET.
