In addition to announcing new fingerprint readers that work through glass and metal, Qualcomm today announced a couple of new Snapdragon chipsets.

First up, the Snapdragon 450 platform is made using a 14nm FinFET process and is meant to offer improvements in battery life, graphics and computing performance, imaging, and LTE connectivity over the Snapdragon 435.

The Snapdragon 450 boasts up to four hours of additional battery life over the Snapdragon 435 thanks to power management improvements, and it also includes Quick Charge 3.0 support for when you need to recharge. Both CPU and GPU performance have improved by 25 percent over the SD 435, too.

Qualcomm also says that the Snapdragon 450 is the first 400-tier chipset to offer real-time bokeh effects. It also supports dual camera systems up to 13MP+13MP or single cameras up to 21MP. And finally, support for the Snapdragon X9 LTE modem means that the Snapdragon 450 can utilize 2x20MHz carrier aggregation for download speeds up to 300Mbps and upload speeds up to 150Mbps.

The Snapdragon 450 platform is aimed at mid-range smartphones and tablets. It’ll begin sampling in Q3 2017 and will begin appearing in consumer devices before the end of 2017.

Also announced today is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform. Aimed at wearables for kids, pets, and the elderly as well as fitness trackers, the Snapdragon Wear 1200 has a 79 sq. mm size that includes LTE system-on-a-chip and the ability to add external sensor hubs.

Snapdragon Wear 1200 is available today.
