The Galaxy Note 8 is one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2017, and today a new report claims to have some new details on Samsung’s next big thing.
Samsung is planning to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in the latter half of December, says a source speaking to VentureBeat. The device is expected to retail for €999 and will reportedly be available in blue, black, and gold color options.
Today’s report also spills a few Note 8 spec details. It’s said that the next Note phone will have a display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, just like the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The Note 8’s screen is expected to measure in at 6.3 inches, just a smidge larger that the S8+’s 6.2-inch display.
Also expected to be included with the Note 8 is an Exynos 8895/Snapdragon 835 processor (depending on the market), 6GB of RAM, a 3300mAh battery, and a dual rear camera setup with two 12-megapixel sensors. It’s also said that the Note 8 will feature a fingerprint reader to the right of the rear cameras, just like on the S8, but that the Note 8’s fingerprint sensor is a little farther away from the cameras themselves.
Rounding out the Note 8’s rumored feature set is better split-screen multitasking, new S Pen features, and support for Samsung’s DeX dock that currently lets you attach a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to a Galaxy S8.
Nothing is official until Samsung says it is, but many of the details in today’s report would make sense for a new Note smartphone. Features like 6GB of RAM, a 6.3-inch screen, and dual 12-megapixel cameras would help differentiate the Note 8 from the S8 and S8+ and give it the feel of a pro device, which is something that many folks consider the Note phones to be. What will be interesting is seeing how the Note 8’s dual 12-megapixel rear cameras will perform, given that this would be Samsung’s first phone with a dual rear camera setup.
