Dummy iPhone 8 with new design reportedly shown on video

Rumors have suggested that Apple may be planning a significant design change for the iPhone 8, and today we may be getting a peek at that new design.

A new video from @OnLeaks and Tiger Mobiles claims to show off a CNC mockup of the iPhone 8, which is based off of the alleged factory CAD info that @OnLeaks got two months ago. The basic design of this iPhone 8 isn’t too far off from the iPhone 7, featuring a slab design and rounded corners, but the rest of this design is a significant departure from previous iPhones.

On the front of the phone, we can see bezels that’ve been slimmed down dramatically so that the front is almost entirely display. The earpiece, camera, and sensors are part of a small protrusion sticking out on the top of the display, similar to the front-facing camera on the Essential Phone. Other than that, the front of this device is all screen.

Around back we can see a dual camera setup like the iPhone 7 Plus had, but these cameras are arranged vertically rather than horizontally like on the 7 Plus. Additionally, the rear camera flash is positioned between the two cameras rather than to the right of them like on the iPhone 7 Plus.

The dimensions of this alleged iPhone 8 are 71mm wide, 143.5mm long, and 7.5mm thick. To compare, the iPhone 7 is 67.1mm wide, 138.3mm long, and 7.1mm thick.

Past rumors have suggested that Apple is planning to reduce the bezels on the iPhone 8 so that it can fit an iPhone 7 Plus-sized display (around 5.5 inches) in the body size of the iPhone 7 (which has a 4.7-inch screen). Because Apple is slimming the bezels so much, it’s got to put the home button somewhere, and it’s been rumored that Apple is trying to integrate the bottom into the display using software like on the Galaxy S8.

While still very much a rumor, this iPhone 8 would bring Apple’s smartphone in line design-wise with some new Android phones like the Galaxy S8, G6, and Essential Phone. The iPhone has caught some flak for its large top and bottom bezels in recent years, so this leaked design would be a welcome change if it becomes reality. Apple is reportedly also working on upgraded versions of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for this year, though, so not all of Apple’s new iPhones for 2017 will get this leaked design.

What do you think of this rumored iPhone 8 design?
