As expected, Google has announced the Android 7.1 Developer Preview.
The Android 7.1 Developer Preview will launch later this month, giving developers and other Nexus owners the chance to try Android 7.1 before it’s rolled out to the public. The update will be available to the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Pixel C initially and will extend to other devices later on.
Android 7.1 will launch to the public in early December. It’ll be offered for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C, and Android One devices.
As for what’ll be included Android 7.1, there are quite a few goodies to look forward to. That includes Daydream VR support, app shortcuts (shown above left), A/B system updates, image keyboard support (shown above right), and circular app icon support.
If you’d like to get the Android 7.1 Developer Preview, you can enroll in Android Beta and get it automatically. Folks that’ve already enrolled in Android Beta for previous Developer Previews will get the Android 7.1 preview.
While Android 7.1 may not be quite as major an update for Nexus owners as Android 7.0, it’ll still bring with it some notable tweaks for users. And with an Android 7.1 Developer Preview, consumers that like to be on the bleeding edge will get to try the update early, developers can test their apps, and Google can test Android 7.1 with a wider base before it pushes the update to the public.
