BlackBerry today introduced its newest Android smartphone, the full-touch DTEK60.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 is similar in design to the DTEK50 that was released earlier this year, but the DTEK60 is a bit higher-end than the DTEK60. For example, the DTEK60 has a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 display, while the DTEK50 has a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display.
BlackBerry’s new DTEK60 also offers a 21-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus and dual LED flash, with an 8-megapixel wide angle camera around front for all of your selfie needs. Inside the DTEK60 is a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot for adding up to 2TB of additional storage, fingerprint reader, and a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and a USB Type-C port.
The DTEK60 comes preloaded with Android 6.0, and BlackBerry has added some of its own special features to the device. That includes gesture controls for easier navigation, Device Search and Instant Actions for executing actions from the search bar, and a Convenience Key on the side for quick access to your favorite apps.
If all of those features sound good to you, well, I’ve got some exciting news. The BlackBerry DTEK60 is available starting today in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands for $499 USD, $650 CDN, €579, and £475. It’ll launch in other countries in the coming weeks.
Also of note is that from now until November 8, BlackBerry DTEK60 buyers will get a free accessory bundle with their phone. US and Canadian buyers will get a free Soft Shell and Rapid Charger, while buyers in all other countries will get a Pocket Case and Rapid Charger.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 has a flagship-level spec list, but its price tag is a bit lower than competing flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and LG V20. However, those devices are sold by carriers, which is how most US consumers still buy their phones. BlackBerry will need to advertise the DTEK60 hard if it wants to make the general public aware of the its new flagship.
