The Mi Note 2 isn’t the only phone that Xiaomi announced today, and if you like unique handsets, you’re going to want to take a look at this other device.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix is a new Android smartphone that’s described as a “concept phone,” but it’s a concept phone that Xiaomi is going to sell to consumers. Perhaps the most notable part of the Mi Mix is its 6.4-inch 2048x1080 edgeless display, which offers a 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio and has rounded corners.
Because the screen takes up so much of the front of the phone, Xiaomi had to make some changes to the traditional layout of the front of a device. For example, the 5-megapixel front-facing camera on the Mi Mix is in the lower corner of the device, and the phone can be flipped upside-down to take selfies. Xiaomi has also eschewed a normal earpiece and is instead used a piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system.
Another notable feature of the Mi Mix is its body. The entire body of the phone is ceramic, including the buttons.
The raw specs of the Mi Mix include a Snapdragon 821 processor, 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, NFC, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, and a 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.
Xiaomi will sell the Mi Mix with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for 3499 Chinese Yuan ($516 USD). There will also be a special Mi Mix 18k model with 18k gold accents around the rear camera and fingerprint reader. This model, which you can see below, will include 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and will cost 3999 Chinese Yuan ($590 USD). The Mi Mix will be available in China on November 4.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix is a pretty crazy-looking device that seems like it’d only ever exist as a fan concept on the internet. Xiaomi is actually selling the Mi Mix, though. The phone’s 6.4-inch display might scare some folks off, but thanks to its 91.3-percent screen-to-body ratio, the Mi Mix doesn’t look much larger than an iPhone 7 Plus in Xiaomi’s images.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Xiaomi will officially offer the Mi Mix in the US. Considering its crazy design, this may be one device to try importing.
