Earlier this year, ZTE announced its Project CSX effort that would take suggestions for a new mobile device that it would make. Today the winner of Project CSX was revealed.
The Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone is the grand prize winner of Project CSX, beating out thousands of other ideas. The other projects in the running included Intelligent Smartphone Covers, a Stock Android Flagship Phone, a VR-Interactive Diving Mask, and a Powerglove.
As the winner of Project CSX, ZTE says that it will bring the Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone to market in 2017. The winner will also travel to CES in January 2017.
According to the specs drawn up by its creator, the Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone offers a 5.5-inch LCD screen, bottom-firing stereo speakers, a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a USB Type-C port. As its name suggests, it’ll also have eye-tracking cameras and sensors that’ll let you perform tasks without touching the display and a self-adhesive back cover that’ll let you stick the phone to other surfaces.
This Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone is an interesting device. We don’t see a ton of eye-tracking in mobile, with the closest feature being the iris scanner on the Note 7 and Lumia 950, so I’m looking forward to seeing how ZTE makes the eye-tracking on this phone work. Meanwhile, the self-adhesive back could come in handy for sticking the phone to a cupboard for reading a recipe or a wall so that you can more comfortably watch a movie.
