As Samsung continues to clean up the mess caused by its Galaxy Note 7 recall, the company has extended a new offer to its customers in South Korea.
Samsung has announced that customers with a Note 7 in South Korea can join the Galaxy Upgrade Program to get a deal on the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8. Note 7 owners can now trade in their device for a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, pay for half of that device, then trade it in for a Galaxy S8 or Note 8 next year for no extra charge.
This offer is open until November 30, and customers that’ve already traded in their Note 7s are eligible. The program is currently only available in South Korea, and there’s no word on when or if it’ll expand to other regions.
Today’s news is notable for a couple of reasons. First is that Samsung is basically letting Note 7 owners upgrade to a Galaxy S8 or Note 8 for half price by asking for 12 of the normal 24 payments on a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge. Samsung is making this move to tempt Note 7 owners to stay in the Galaxy ecosystem rather than jumping to a device from a different manufacturer.
Also notable about Samsung’s announcement is that it appears to confirm that Samsung will have a Note device next year. Some have speculated that Samsung might put an end to its Note line of devices following the Note 7’s debacle, but Samsung’s announcement mentions that a Note 8 is coming next year, so folks mourning the end of the Note 7 have the Note 8 to look forward to.
