Samsung Galaxy S8 rumored to ditch 3.5mm headphone jack, adopt USB Type-C

Samsung Galaxy S7 hands-on

Details on Samsung’s Galaxy S8 continue to trickle out ahead of the device’s expected early 2017 debut, and today a few more details on the upcoming Android flagship have surfaced.

A new report claims that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack, following in the footsteps of the Moto Z, HTC Bolt, and other devices. Like those handsets, the GS8 will instead rely on a USB Type-C port, a feature that Samsung first included with the Note 7.

We’ve seen several major players in mobile abandon the 3.5mm headphone jack in 2016, including Apple, Samsung’s biggest competitor. This makes the decision a bit easier for Samsung, though some Galaxy fans are likely going to be upset about it. The removal of the 3.5mm jack does have its benefits, though, like giving Samsung extra space inside of the GS8’s body for other components.

Continuing with the Galaxy S8 rumors, it’s said that the device will retain the 2560x1440 display resolution of the Galaxy S7. However, Samsung is expected to opt for an RGB layout rather than Pentile this time around, which could offer improvements in virtual reality.
