Motorola DROID Turbo owners receiving Marshmallow update

Motorola DROID Turbo hands-on

The same day that Google began pushing Android 7.1.1 to Pixel and Nexus devices, Moto and Verizon started updating one of their phones. The only issue is that it’s a slightly older update.

Some Motorola DROID Turbo owners are receiving an update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The update includes the usual features that you’d get with Marshmallow, like Google Now on Tap and Doze battery optimizations, as well as Wi-Fi Calling support and the September 1, 2016 Android security patches.

The update could still be in the soak test stage, as Verizon hasn’t officially announced it on its software update page. If that’s the case, then anyone still rocking a DROID Turbo is at least getting a good idea of what to expect from their impending update.

It’s kind of disappointing to hear that the DROID Turbo is receiving an update to Marshmallow instead of Nougat, but the update is better than nothing. So if you’re rocking the two-year-old DROID Turbo, you can check for updates by going into Settings > About phone > System updates to see if you’ve got a Marshmallow treat waiting for you.
