New Pokémon Go update will add more than 80 new monsters and other improvements

Pokémon Go’s Valentine’s Day event may be coming to an end today, but developer Niantic has some major news about the game to follow it up with.

Niantic today announced that more than 80 new Pokémon are joining Pokémon Go later this week. These monsters will come from the Pokémon Gold and Silver games and will include Cyndaquil, Totodile, Chikorita, Hoothoot, Crobat, Marill, and more.

There will also be new evolutions for Pokémon trainers, as some of the original Pokémon will be able to evolve into new monsters from this latest batch.

Niantic is tweaking the Pokémon encounter gameplay with its impending update, too. There will be new ways that the monsters can react when you’re trying to catch them, and faster ways for you to access your Poké Balls and berries while you’re in battle.

Pokémon Go update 80 new monsters

Speaking of berries, there are a couple of new berries coming to Pokémon Go. Nanab Berries will slow a Pokémon’s movement, making it easier to catch, while Pinap Berries will give you double the Candy if your next catch attempt succeeds.

Finally, your trainer avatar in Pokémon Go will receive new clothes with this update. New hats, shirts, pants, and other items are coming to the game.

This is one of the biggest updates that we’ve seen for Pokémon Go to date. Obviously the addition of more than 80 Pokémon is huge, giving you new monsters to hunt for and giving folks that completed the original Pokédex a reason to return to the game. The updates to Pokémon encounters are big, too, making it easier for you to use Berries and switch Poké Balls during battle.

Keep an eye out for this Pokémon Go update coming later this week.
