One of the highlight features of Moto’s Z phones is their modularity, letting you slap on different accessories like a camera grip or a projector. Moto also released a Mod Development Kit so that others can create modules for its Z phones, and Moto has even hosted events to aid in Mod creation. This week, the company shared some of the Mods that’ve come out of these events.
Moto has highlighted five Mods that were made at recent events in Buenos Aires and San Francisco. Those include:
- Baby Care: Moto Mod that will alert you when the room conditions aren’t ideal for a baby, like if the temperature is too hot or too cold.
- Moto Color: Will emit a sound to indicate when a color that’s being analyzed is red, blue, or green to aid the visually impaired.
- Solar-powered battery charger: Wireless charger that lets you use the sunlight to recharge your Moto Z. Can reach a 100 percent charge in about 10 hours.
- Simple Syrup: Track blood sugar readings on the go for diabetics.
- ModCoholic: Breathalyzer that will determine the alcohol level in your breath and ask if you want a taxi when you’re over the legal limit.
Moto is hosting more events in the near future, including one in Shenzhen, China in March. Winners are these events will be entered into Moto’s Transform the Smartphone Challenge campaign on Indiegogo, which will give lucky winners the chance to have their Mod distributed by Moto and Verizon.
In other Moto Mod news, a company named Imagine Tech has launched a new Mod on Indiegogo. It’s called the Edge, and includes a ring of LEDs that’ll light up around the entire outer edge of the Moto Z when you get notifications.
The Edge can be tweaked with different colors and patterns for different types of notifications.
There are two versions of the Edge. The Edge Force includes a 2000mAh battery that can be used to recharge your Moto Z on the go, while the Edge Air adds wireless charging functionality to your phone.
Both Edge Mods are estimated to begin shipping in July 2017. While the $49 Early Bird tier is already sold out, you can get one for $55 as of this writing.
