Ever since the Amazon Echo first launched in late 2014, we've seen Amazon steadily grow its family of Alexa-powered devices with new speakers, smart screens, and even a set-top box. Now a new report says that Amazon is planning to grow its Echo family of devices some more, and in a big way.
Amazon is planning to launch at least eight new Alexa-powered devices by the end of 2018, according to a report from CNBC. These include a microwave, an amplifier, a receiver, a subwoofer, and an in-car device. Details on these products are light, but it's said that Amazon could introduce at least some of them at an event later this month.
We've seen that Amazon really wants to push its Alexa assistant onto as many devices as possible, launching new Echo products with large and small screens, a fashion-focused Alexa device with a camera, and recently a Fire TV device with Alexa built in. This new report suggests that Amazon is going to continue trying to get Alexa into every room in your home, including the kitchen. An Alexa-powered microwave sounds like an interesting idea, especially if you can use it to cook with your voice. We'll have to wait and see what kind of feature set it can offer and how much Amazon charges for it.
