Google Pixel 2 FCC entry spills several details about the upcoming flagship

Google Pixel XL hands-on video review

The Google Pixel 2 leaks continue to flow today thanks to the FCC.

The FCC entry for the Pixel 2 has been discovered, and while much of the interesting details have been withheld, there are still some juicy tidbits contained in the documents. For example, the Confidentiality Request comes from HTC, which appears to confirm the rumors that the Pixel 2 will be made by HTC.

The e-label documents also contain some info about the Pixel 2. We can see that the device is running Android 8.0.1 and has 50.66 GB of storage free after 21 percent is being used, suggesting a total of 64GB of internal storage.

Also of note is the “Languages, input & gestures” section in the second screenshot that mentions “Active Edge” and says that you can “squeeze for your Assistant”. Rumors have suggested that the HTC-made Pixel 2 will let you squeeze its sides to perform an action, just like Edge Sense on the HTC U11, and this screenshot appears to confirm that detail.

Meanwhile, the “Baseband version” section mentions “mw8998”. That hints at the inclusion of a Snapdragon 835 processor, which is also known as MSM8998.

This FCC filing also reveals the wireless bands that this particular Pixel 2 supports. The device offers GSM 850/1900; WCDMA bands II, IV, and V; CDMA BC0, BC1, and BC10; and LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 30, 41, and 66.

Finally, the FCC e-label includes the model number G011A, which is also used in the FCC ID. This means that G011A could be the model number for the Pixel 2.

While many of the details included in these FCC documents have been rumored or expected of the Pixel 2, the fact that we’re now getting info from the FCC gives legitimacy to those rumors. Unfortunately, the FCC entry for the Pixel XL 2 that’s expected to be made by LG hasn’t yet been discovered, so we’ll have to continue waiting for more details on Google’s next phablet.

There’s no word on when Google might announce the new Pixel phones. Google revealed the Pixel and Pixel XL in early October last year, so it’s possible that we’ll get an October announcement for the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.
