The parade of new Android phones at IFA 2017 continues today with the official debut of the Moto X4.
The Moto X4 features an anodized aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass on both its front and rear. The whole package is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance, too, so you don’t have to worry about the X4 getting a little wet.
Another highlight feature of the Moto X4 is its dual rear camera setup. There are 12-megapixel standard and 8-megapixel wide angle sensors on the back of the X4, letting you do things like add blurry backgrounds to your photos. There’s also a new Landmark Detection feature that’ll let you point the camera at an object of interest to learn more about it, scan a business card and add the info to your contacts, and more.
The Moto X4 runs Android 7.1 Nougat and comes with Amazon’s Alexa built-in, meaning that you can access the assistant without unlocking your phone. Also included with the X4 is a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera above it and a fingerprint reader below it.
Inside the Moto X4’s glass and aluminum body lives a Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD slot for adding more storage if you’d like. There’s also NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C, and a 3,000mAh battery powering the whole package.
Motorola says that the Moto X4 will launch in various countries in Europe in September for €399 ($475 USD). A U.S. launch is planned for this fall, but there’s no word on how much the Moto X4 will cost when it does make its way stateside.
The Moto X line used to be Motorola’s flagship, but now the Moto Z devices are Motorola’s premium offerings. That doesn’t mean that the Moto X4 is a bad phone, though. In fact, it looks like a pretty solid mid-range offering with respectable features like a 5.2-inch full HD screen, dual rear cameras, and IP68 water resistance. So if you’re in the market for an affordable, mid-range Android phone, the Moto X4 might be worth keeping on your radar.
