Nexus 6 receives Android 7.1.1 update

Nexus 6 hands-on

Google said last month that the Nexus 6 would receive its Android 7.1.1 update in early January, and the company has kept its word.

The Nexus 6’s Android 7.1.1 update is now available. It should be rolling out over the air, but if you’ve got an N6 and don’t feel like waiting any longer for your helping of Android 7.1.1, you can grab the factory image or OTA image directly from Google and sideload them now if that's something you're comfortable doing. The build number for the update is N6F26Q.

Google first released Android 7.1.1 to Pixel and Nexus phones in early December, but the Nexus 6 had to wait for its helping of 7.1.1 because Google discovered a “last minute bug” with that update. The issue was taken care of by the end of December, though, and now Nexus 6 owners can kick off 2017 with the latest version of Nougat.

Android 7.1.1 contains some notable new features, like the ability to long press on an app icon to get shortcuts for jumping to certain parts of that app. So if you’ve got a Nexus 6, be on the lookout for your Android 7.1.1 update so that you can install it and get those new features as soon as possible.
