Samsung Galaxy S8 leak includes photo and specs of upcoming Android flagship

Samsung Galaxy S8 photo leak

We’ve been hearing rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S8 for weeks now, but today perhaps the biggest leak yet has surfaced.

A photo that claims to show the Samsung Galaxy S8 has made its way online. Shared by VentureBeat, the image gives us a look at both the front and rear of the larger version of the GS8.

The Galaxy S8 in this photo includes some notable tweaks from the Galaxy S7. Perhaps most notable is the lack a home button on the front of the phone, which is a feature that all previous Galaxy S flagships have had. Since there’s no home button, Samsung has relocated the GS8’s fingerprint reader to the back of the device, next to the rear camera.

Speaking of the rear camera, the Galaxy S8 is said to include 12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras. The rear camera is said to include a new visual search feature that’ll include icons for the user to indicate what type of search they want to perform, like an OCR-enabled search on photographed text. Meanwhile, the front of the phone will have an iris scanner.

Today’s report also backs up the recent rumor that Samsung will offer a DeX accessory for the Galaxy S8, which will enable the device to be connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Also included is Bixby, which is Samsung’s virtual assistant. Bixby will reportedly be launched using a dedicated button on the side of the device and will able to handle multi-part instructions.

Other features of the Galaxy S8 are said to include 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED displays with 18.5:9 aspect ratios. Both displays will have curved edge sides. Also included is either a Snapdragon 835 or Samsung Exynos processor, depending on region; a 3000mAh battery in the 5.8-inch model and a 3500mAh battery in the 6.2-inch version; 4GB of RAM; 64GB of storage; a microSD slot; USB Type-C; a 3.5mm headphone jack; and stereo speakers.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 will reportedly debut at an event on March 29. Both models are expected to hit Europe on April 21 with pricing set at €799 ($854 USD) for the 5.8-inch version and €899 ($962 USD) for the 6.2-inch model.

While nothing is official until Samsung says that it is, this Galaxy S8 sounds like a nice upgrade over the GS7, but some features are sure to be polarizing. For example, some folks will likely be upset that both phones have curved edge displays, while others will be turned off by the large displays found on both phones.

What do you think of this Galaxy S8?
