The Galaxy Note 7 may have had some bad luck with its batteries, but that doesn’t mean that Samsung will be killing off its Note line.
Samsung mobile head DJ Koh has confirmed that there will be a follow-up to the Galaxy Note 7. Speaking to CNET, Koh said, “I will bring back a better, safer, and very innovative Note 8.”
After the Galaxy Note 7 mess, which included several units catching fire, two recalls, and an airplane ban, some thought that Samsung might abandon the Galaxy Note family. After all, at least with Samsung’s next couple of devices, there will probably be a few people asking if they explode. Koh believes that there are “lots and lots of loyal Note customers,” though.
The Galaxy Note series has produced some of the biggest and most popular smartphones in recent years, and so it’s not terribly surprising to learn that Samsung is prepping a Note 8. The Galaxy Note 7 was pretty well-received before it got recalled and discontinued, so if Samsung can create another high-end Android phablet and avoid any overheating issues, it could return the Galaxy Note name to is pre-fire glory.
