Google Voice getting big update with refreshed design

Google Voice update new design

It’s not often that we get news regarding Google Voice, but today that’s exactly what Google has for us.

Google today announced a major update to Google Voice for Android, iOS, and the web. That includes a refreshed design that Google describes as “cleaner” and “more intuitive.”

Also part of the new design is an inbox with separate tabs for texts, calls, and voicemails, and messaging that now offers conversation threads as well as support for group and photo MMS and in-notification replies. Meanwhile, voicemail transcriptions are gaining support for Spanish.

Google Voice update new features

Google acknowledges that Google Voice has been neglected in recent years, but the company promises that that won’t be the case any longer. Google has committed to providing “new updates and features” to its Google Voice apps.

The updated Google Voice apps for Android, iOS, and the web will begin rolling out today, January 23. Everyone should get them in the coming weeks.

Google Voice was a big deal years ago, promising you one number that you could use across multiple devices. Since then, though, Google Voice has gone without any significant updates and Google has focused on other projects, like the Hangouts Dialer. Now it looks like Google Voice may be back, and while some folks may have moved on from GV due to its dearth of updates, anyone that’s stuck with Google Voice is sure to be pleased.

Have you tried Google Voice? If so, what do you think of today’s updates?
