After Lenovo launched the first official Google Tango smartphone, it looks like a different manufacturer could be cooking up the second Tango phone.

Images of the ASUS ZenFone AR have leaked out. The renders, shared by Evan Blass, purportedly show the second Google Tango smartphone.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm appears to have published its official announcement of the ZenFone AR early. A press release for the phone is live on Qualcomm’s site as of this writing, though the announcement is dated January 4.

ASUS ZenFone AR Qualcomm leak

Qualcomm’s announcement reveals that the ZenFone AR is powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor. That’s an upgrade from the Snapdragon 652 chip that’s inside the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the first Tango smartphone. The upgrade to the Snapdragon 821 will bring improved graphics, performance, and power efficiency.

The ZenFone AR will also support Google’s Daydream VR platform, says Qualcomm.

Google’s Tango platform is all about augmented reality (AR), relying on cameras and sensors to overlay objects in the real world. For example, Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro uses cameras and sensors to do things like visualize how appliances would look in your home.

Expect to learn more details of the Tango-ready ZenFone AR on January 4.
