New leak gives us an early look at Android 9 Pie for the Samsung Galaxy S9

Now that Android 9 Pie has officially launched, many users are wondering when their phone will get the update. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are two of the biggest devices waiting for their slice of Pie, and while we don't yet know when that'll come, a new leak is giving us a preview of the update.

A new report claims to have information and screenshots of Samsung Experience 10, based on Android 9 Pie, for the Galaxy S9+. The folks at XDA-Developers got their hands on an early build of the update and revealed some of the goodies contained within, like a new AMOLED dark theme and an updated UI that features cards with curved corners.

Also updated is the Quick Settings, which has rounded buttons, and a refreshed lock screen that has a new clock design and that replaces the app shortcuts at the bottom of the screen with the color of the app icon. The Recent Apps overview menu has been updated, too, with an Android 9 Pie style look that features a horizontally-scrolling list of apps and a dock at the bottom.

Samsung has added a new lift to wake motion in the update which does exactly what it sounds like: wake up your phone when you lift it from a table. New gestures are in there as well, letting you swipe up from the bottom of the screen to activate Home, Back, and Recents actions. This gesture feature requires that you hide the navigation bar.

Of course, Samsung has updated many of its own apps for Android 9 Pie, too. Many apps are getting the new card-style UI with rounded corners, including Samsung Messages, Samsung Mail, Samsung Internet, Gallery, and My Files. The new night theme will also appear in Samsung's apps, like the Dialer and Samsung Messages. Bixby is also expected to be updated.

As we mentioned before, there's no word on when this Samsung Experience 10 update with Android 9 Pie will begin rolling out to users. It took Samsung several months to begin pushing Oreo to the Galaxy S8, so hopefully things are a little faster when it comes to getting Pie to the Galaxy S9.

What do you think of this update so far?
