Samsung Galaxy Note 9 S Pen appears in FCC, includes Bluetooth for added features

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 S Pen hands-on

With right around one month to go before the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 makes its official debut, it looks like a new detail of the device has been revealed.

The FCC filing for what is likely the Galaxy Note 9's S Pen has surfaced. The device features the model number EJ-PN960, which lines up with the Note 9 and its SM-N960 model number, and the filing even lists this as a "Stylus Pen".

What's interesting about this FCC entry is that it mentions that the S Pen offers 2.4GHz Bluetooth LE. It's unclear exactly what features Samsung might offer with an S Pen that connects to the Note 9 over Bluetooth, but leaker Ice Universe claims that the Bluetooth-equipped stylus will be able to control a long range self-timer and as well as music playback controls.

Samsung's invitation for the Note 9 event appears to show an S Pen button, so it looks like the Note 9's stylus will be a focus of the device, and that makes sense given this Bluetooth support. Adding Bluetooth to the S Pen could open up the stylus to a whole new level of functionality and make the Note 9 a more tempting upgrade, especially since the device is rumored to have a design that's fairly similar to the Note 8.

Also of note is that the unlocked version of the Galaxy Note 9 for the U.S. recently passed through the FCC as SM-N9609U. There's nothing too surprising to be found in the filing, but the good news is that the device appears to include all of the wireless band support that you'd want.

Are you looking forward to the Galaxy Note 9?
