BLU smartphones return to Amazon after 'false alarm' over security issues

Earlier this week, Amazon halted sales of BLU smartphones over security concerns. Fast-forward a few days later and sales of BLU phones have resumed.

BLU Products has confirmed that its phones are once again available for purchase on Amazon. The company says that the security issue that originally caused Amazon to pull BLU phones was a “false alarm.”

In a separate statement earlier this week, BLU said that the data that its devices currently collect “is standard for OTA functionality and basic informational reporting.” BLU added that it “has several policies in place which takes customer privacy and security very seriously” and that “there has been no breach or issue of any kind with any of its devices.”

A recent report claimed that select BLU devices were transmitting sensitive user data to Chinese servers. That’s an issue on its own, but it’s made worse because BLU was involved in a similar security issue last year. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like any sensitive user data was put at risk this time around.
