New Apple iPad launching on March 24 with updated processor, lower price than iPad Air 2

New Apple iPad March 2017

That red iPhone 7 isn’t the only product that Apple announced today.

Apple today revealed a new iPad, which looks to be a new version of the iPad Air 2 but without the “iPad Air” name. This new iPad features a 9.7-inch 2048x1536 display, but it does not appear to have the same fully laminated display or antireflective coating as the iPad Air 2.

Another notable difference between the new iPad and the iPad Air 2 are their processors. While the iPad Air 2 came equipped with an Apple A8X processor, the new iPad comes packing a newer A9 processor, the same one used in the iPhone 6s.

The one other big change here is that the new iPad is cheaper than its predecessor. The new iPad costs $329 for the 32GB model and $429 for the 128GB, and you can add built-in cellular connectivity to either model for an extra $130. The iPad Air 2 started at $399 for the 32GB version and $499 for the 128GB model.

Everything else about the new iPad is similar to the old model. There are 8-megapixel rear and 1.2-megapixel front cameras, a fingerprint reader in the Home button, a 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in stereo speakers, and Silver, Gold, and Space Gray color options.

This new iPad will launch on Friday, March 24.

Apple today also boosted the storage of the iPad mini 4, announcing 128GB versions in Wi-Fi ($399) and cellular ($529) models.
