Instagram is rolling out new features that it hopes will make its service safer to use.
First up, two-factor authentication is now available to all Instagram users. You can enable it by tapping the gear icon on your profile and then selecting Two-Factor Authentication in the Account section. You’ll then be prompted to enter your phone number if you don’t already have it attached to your account, and then you’ll enter the confirmation code sent to you.
With two-factor authentication enabled, you’ll need to enter a security code sent to you by Instagram whenever you want to log in to your account.
Having two-factor authentication enabled can greatly increase the security of your account. With it, someone would need access to your phone to get a security code to get into your account, rather than only needing your password like they would if you didn’t have two-factor authentication enabled.
Also rolling out today is a new Sensitive Content feature. This will cover photos and videos that’ve been deemed as Sensitive Content by Instagram. To view them, you’ll just need to tap to reveal the image or video.
Instagram says that while Sensitive Content posts don’t violate the service’s terms of service, they are images or videos that have been reported by someone in the community and that the Instagram team has confirmed are sensitive.
