Samsung Gear S3 Classic with 4G LTE coming to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon

Samsung Gear S3 Classic official front back

Samsung began selling a 4G LTE version of the Gear S3 Frontier smartwatch back in November 2016, and now the Gear S3 Classic is getting the same treatment.

Samsung today announced an LTE version of the Gear S3 Classic. It’ll be sold by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the US, but none of the carriers are revealing their launch plans or prices quite yet.

The LTE Gear S3 Classic is similar to the LTE Gear S3 Frontier in terms of specs. It’s got a round 1.3-inch 360x360 Super AMOLED display, dual-core processor, 4GB of storage, 768MB of RAM, and a 380mAh battery. There’s MST and NFC in there for Samsung Pay as well as a heart rate monitor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, and GPS.

The Gear S3 Classic is also IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. On the software side, it’s running Tizen, and it can be paired with smartphones running Android 4.4 and up as well as phones on iOS 9.0 or up, so long as they’ve got at least 1.5GB of RAM.

The big difference between the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier is the design of their cases. While the Frontier has large ridges all around its case to give it a rugged look, the Classic has much smaller ridges for a more traditional design.

It’s nice to see Samsung finally offering an LTE version of the Gear S3 Classic for folks that want an LTE-enabled smartwatch from Samsung, but don’t care for the rugged look of the Frontier model. If that’s you, stay tuned and we’ll let you know when AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon plan to begin selling this LTE-enabled Gear S3 Classic.
