Alongside its new red iPhone 7, new iPad, and new Apple Watch bands, Apple today unleashed a brand new iOS app.
Clips is a new app for iPhone and iPad that makes it easy to share creative videos through social networks. With Clips, you can record photos and video or import existing photos and video from your Photo Library, then add filters, speech bubbles, shapes, emoji, and even animated backgrounds.
The Clips app also includes “dozens” of soundtracks to give your video some tunes. You can add customized text, too. using the Live Titles feature that’ll let you add animated captions using your voice. Lite Titles supports 36 languages.
Once you’re done with your video, you can share it in Apple’s Messages app or send it to social networks like Instagram and Facebook as well as video sites like YouTube and Vimeo.
Apple will launch Clips in early April, and the app will be free of charge. It’ll require iOS 10.3 and will be compatible with the iPhone 5s and later as well as the new iPad, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, the iPad mini 2 and later, and the iPod touch 6th generation.
Lots of folks like to share videos on social networks, and while many of those apps include built-in editing tools, some of them are kind of barebones. Apple’s Clips app wants to give you a more powerful editing tool that’s still fun to use and is capable of sending your finished product straight to social networks. Next month we’ll see just how well it does that.
