The PlayStation and the DualShock controller stories are intertwined, with the controller being around since almost the beginning of the PlayStation brand. Instead of constantly fiddling with the design and features of the DualShock, Sony has kept much of the dual analog design the same. Now, we're treated to an iconic controller that's achieved near perfection.

Over 75 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold so far, but most bundles give you just one DualShock 4 controller in the box. Of course, in order to partake in local multiplayer games, you need more than one controller. Plus, having a spare is a good idea to always have one charged for those lengthy gaming sessions.

To help you get the most out of your PlayStation, we've rounded up the cheapest PS4 controller prices right here. We've picked out the best deals for the various different colors too.

Cheapest PS4 controller prices by color:

Gray/Blue DualShock 4: This will be your best bet then if you already own a PS4, and it's close to the same color controller as the one in the Uncharted 4 Special Edition console bundle. It's shot up in price in recent weeks and you can save money by opting for a different color. If you've gotta have it though, Amazon is the cheapest today at $60.83 (used).

Urban Camo DualShock 4: This model is a bit of a rare find at most retailers so expect higher prices than most models. Today's best price for the Urban Camo DualShock 4 is $74.99 at Amazon.

Crystal DualShock 4: The clear Crystal DualShock 4 finally has an official US release. We've searched around for the best price and that'll be  $79.95 at Amazon.

Blue Crystal DualShock 4:This new see through blue DualShock 4 controller is a Walmart-exclusive in the US. So you won't find any other retailers officially selling it outside of places like eBay or Amazon Marketplace. Today though, it's cheapest at $59.94 at Walmart.

More of the best DualShock 4 prices - UK

Urban Camo DualShock 4: This one is a bit of a rare find at most retailers so expect higher prices than most models. Today's best Urban Camo price is £75 at Amazon.

Crystal DualShock 4: Crystal? Well, it's see through. It's also an Amazon exclusive apparently. Your new Crystal DualShock 4 is now £51.96 at Amazon.

Grey/Blue DualShock 4: This looks like the same colour controller as the one in the Uncharted 4 Special Edition console bundle. This will be your best bet then if you already own a PS4. We've seen this for as low as £45, but sadly the best deal today is a rather untouchable £84 at Amazon.

What's the difference between the original and new V2 DualShock 4 controller?

If you've seen mention of a 'New' or 'V2' DualShock 4 controller while looking for a new pad, you may be scratching your head. What separates these two controllers?

Here's the difference: the new/V2 DualShock 4 was released alongside the PS4 Slim and features a few improvements over the original.

Some listings are a bit vague, but the clearest visual indicator to look out for is the new light bar on the DualShock's 4 trackpad. This thin slit wasn't on the original, so just look for the dimly illuminated blue line on the product listing's image gallery. The original blue/red/gold controllers had black plastic on the back half of the controller, but the V2 versions feature matching colors, albeit a shade darker.

Other improvements include USB functionality, allowing gamers to plug the controller in for lag-free gaming (it simply charged the original), which could give you the edge in online shooters or games like Street Fighter V. You'll also be able to use this enhanced connectivity to use the DualShock 4 on a PC without paying for the Bluetooth adapter. The rubber on the analogues has been improved (again) to prevent it wearing away so much too.

The cheapest Chromecast prices and deals in for January 2020

With competition from rival devices heating up, it's a good time to be on the lookout for some of the cheapest Chromecast prices. Google Chromecast is not only one of the most useful and innovative gadgets of the last few years, with a broad library of Chromecast apps – it's also excellent value for money. And if you're looking to pick one up for the cheapest possible price, you've come to the right place!

Chromecast is a Wi-Fi HDMI dongle that you plug directly into your TV. From there you can use your smartphone or tablet to 'throw' video at your TV over Wi-Fi, whether it be Netflix movies, live football matches from the major broadcasters or simply just a funny YouTube video. On this page we'll find you the best prices for the Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast 3, Chromecast 2 and Chromecast Audio and explain how they differ. You'll have to be quick on Chromecast Audio, as Google has announced it will no longer be making new units.

With prices already pretty cheap, there's no need to hang on for specific Chromecast sales of the other dongles. If you're in the UK or US and would prefer to stream content from a standalone box, you should take a look at the latest Roku deals. Otherwise, there's a strong selection of streaming devices over on our Amazon Fire TV Stick prices and deals page.

The cheapest Chromecast 3 prices

The newest version of the standard (non-4K) Chromecast is this 3rd-gen iteration. Generally, you'll find it for the same prices as the previous model. It's phasing out stock of the older model, although if you spot the older one for a decent amount less, you're not missing much at all by skipping the new one. The only real improvement is a modest boost to the speed it'll load up videos and start running them in full HD. The actual dongle looks a bit different too (see images), but other than the speed boost, that's all your getting for the Chromecast 3. At least now we know why Google basically launched this without really letting anyone know.

cheap chromecast ultra deals

The cheapest Chromecast Ultra prices

The 4K Chromecast Ultra is the newest member of the Chromecast family. If you have a 4K TV or are planning on getting one, it's certainly worth picking one of these up. Chromecast Ultra deals are usually around £69/US$69/AU$95, so anything cheaper is an added bonus. It's worth noting though that the 4K-ready Amazon Fire TV Stick prices are cheaper nowadays though and that device also comes with a remote.

cheap chromecast audio deals

The best Chromecast Audio deals

While it doesn't offer true multi-room streaming, this easy-to-use and affordable device modernizes any trusty set of wired speakers you already own with wireless capabilities. In doing so, it also opens them up to smart features. Got an old set of speakers or an ancient iPod dock? Turn it into a wireless speaker with Chromecast Audio! You'll have to be quick though as Google recently announced it is ceasing production of the Chromecast Audio dongle. That means once stock is sold out from stores, don't expect to see any fresh units. Prices may even end up increasing as stores capitalize on the situation. After that, you might only be able to find used or refurbished models. It's a shame Google has decided to drop the Chromecast Audio as there aren't that may similar devices out there. That being said, You could try the new Amazon Echo Input, which comes with voice-controls included too for a similar price.

cheap chromecast deals

The cheapest Chromecast 2 prices

The Chromecast 2, is very similar to the now discontinued 2013 Chromecast. Sure, it looks a little different. And it's got slightly faster network performance and a few other tweaks such as coming with a dangly cable instead of as a rigid stick. But essentially the same product in a different shape - that's why the prices were basically the same. There's a newer version out now, although it's only moderately faster.

The best Beats headphones 2020: prices, sales and cheap deals

Beats headphones: the options explained

Beats headphones are the most popular headphones in the world. The Beats headphones brand was bought by Apple for $3bn back in 2014 and now contains multiple pairs of over-ear headphones and in-ear earphones.

On the over-ear and on-ear side of the Beats headphones range you'll find the Beats Solo Pro and Beats Studio 3 Wireless leading the charge with an over-ear design, the best sound and highest price. The Beats Solo 3 Wireless is the most popular option, with an on-ear slightly more compact design. And the Beats EP is a cheap Beats option that goes for under $100. You can also still pick up a pair of Beats Pro headphones, made for DJs - though they're no longer listed on the Beats website.

Meanwhile, the Powerbeats Pro are the latest true wireless earbuds in the Beats in-ear headphone range, offering totally wireless listening with a sporty finish – think Apple Airpods but with better noise isolation and better sound.

They're backed up by the Powerbeats3 Wireless which is the previous wireless option which connects the earphones behind your neck. You also have the BeatsX - a more traditional style of wireless earbuds and then at the bottom end you also have the wired urBeats3 earphones which is available with either 3.5mm or Lightning connector for an iPhone.

Beats headphones: choosing which to buy

So if you're looking to buy some Beats headphones but aren't sure which ones to get or where to find the best prices, you've come to the right place. We've compared every model still readily available - both the newest models and also the now slightly older and cheaper ones - to show you what each pair of Beats headphones does best to help you decide on a pair.

cheap powerbeats pro deals prices sales

The Powerbeats Pro were certainly worth the wait, especially if you've been waiting for the most exercise-friendly Beats headphones yet. Sure, we had the Powerbeats Pro 3 back in 2016, but these are true-wireless, meaning there's no cable connecting the two earpieces here. The hook that reaches behind the ear feels better than ever and ensures your Beats stay in place during any activity.

In addition to that signature bass-heavy sound, you're getting surprisingly adept quality at the lower ranges too. The noise-isolation is superior to the AirPods too. Make no mistake though, Beats are at their best with high-energy, big tunes. So, if you're hitting the gym, these are the Beats you want. They're not waterproof mind, so be careful if you go running in the rain.

We're loving the 9-hour battery and that can be boosted to around 24 hours thanks to the charging case that comes with the new Powerbeats Pro headphones. Running late? A five-minute quick charge gives you 90 minutes of playback. Nice.

cheap Beats Solo Pro prices deals

The newest Beats on the block are a fantastic addition to the series and a tempting purchase for anyone looking for a set of cans with decent noise-canceling tech.

Studier than the Solo 3 line and sporting a cool matte finish in each color, the Beats Solo Pro feel like the biggest step up in quality the series has seen in some time for its larger line of headphones. Beats work best with iPhones and pair fast thanks to modern chipsets and we're loving the hands-free Siri integration too which is a first on the Beats Solo Pro.

The active noise-cancelation brings Apple's Beats somewhat closer to the best offerings from Sony and Bose, although those two are still ahead by some distance. We do like the simple-one button access to the transparency mode here though. This optional feature allows some outside noise to come through, which can be handy in an office if you want to be aware of someone calling your name or making sure you're aware of traffic around you when walking or cycling.

The Beats Solo 3 Wireless headphones are the most popular model, offering an on-ear design

If you have a modern iPhone and want one of the best pair of Beats headphones made especially for Apple's new phones, you really should take a look at the Beats Solo 3 Wireless headphones. In addition to a fantastic wireless connection and punchy sound you're getting a huge battery run-time. A single charge can last for up to 40 hours which could last you for an entire week's worth of commuting between charges. The Solo 3 Wireless are the most popular over/on-ear headphones in the Beats range and are regularly on sale. They're also available in a whole range of different colour designs so there's plenty of scope to choose a color scheme that best represents your personality - whether that's jet black or blingy gold! They fold neatly away in a bag and don't look massive on your head - although there are no noise cancelling options with this model - for that you'd need either the Beats Studio 3 Wireless or the newer Beats Solo Pro.

The Beats Studio 3 Wireless headphones are at the top end of the range - they sound the best but cost the most

The newest Studio entry in the Beats headphones range is the Beats Studio 3 Wireless. Using an over-ear, closed back design, the Studio 3 is the best noise cancelling set of headphones Beats has ever made. The battery has massively improved too, as you can enjoy music for up to 22 hours, or 40 with the active noise cancelling turned off. The Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones are a great match for users of modern iPhones missing 3.5mm jacks - you can pair them with any smartphone though thanks to the Bluetooth technology. The Studio 3 is available in multiple colors including: red, matte black, white, porcelain rose, blue and shadow grey. They are more expensive compared with the Solo 3 Wireless and they're bulkier and heavier too - so do make sure you're aware of this before you buy.

The Beats X were the first in-ear wireless headphones in the range

Long after their reveal alongside the iPhone 7, these eagerly awaited in-ear Beats headphones were finally released in February 2017. These wireless headphones are a perfect match for iPhone owners missing the 3.5mm port. We're particularly impressed by the quick charge feature that gives you two hours of playback from a single five-minute charge. Eight hours from a full charge isn't too shabby either.

Beats urBeats 3 headphones are available with both 3.5mm and Lightning connectors

There are two versions of the urBeats 3 in-ear headphones to look out for. One with a Lightning connection for modern iPhones and these ones with the traditional 3.5mm jack. It gets better too, as Beats have released a few newer in-ear options since the urBeats 3, meaning the prices has come tumbling down in recent months, making these the cheapest Beats on the market. They're not the best Beats on the market, although the bass performance is impressive from such small buds.

Beats urBeats 3 headphones with lightning connectors are recommended if you're listening with iPhone or iPad

The earphones themselves are the same as the ones above, but they come with a Lightning connector on the end instead of a 3.5mm jack. This is ideal if you want something to use on a modern iPhone or MacBook as we're seeing those items ditch the old headphone port nowadays. The urBeats 3 with Lightning connector is one of the cheapest in the Beats range too, often with massive discounts compared to the original launch price. They do generally cost a touch more than the 3.5mm versions though.

Beats Pro over-ear headphones are a couple of years old but still a great option for DJs or bass-heads

The Beats Pro over-ear headphones aren't as appealing for day-to-day use as they used to be thanks to the latest Solo 3 and Studio 3 lines offering a better overall experience, usually for less money too. This model is consequently no longer in production. But if you're looking for some big, beefy, bassy Beats headphones to use as a DJ or for listening at home they excel in loud environments. The metal frames are incredibly durable too as the rest of the Beats line favour plastic designs.

Beats by Dre Powerbeats3 are the precursor to the new Powerbeats Pro

Do you lead an active lifestyle that requires the lightweight feel of in-ear headphones without the massive cans on your head? Then the Beats headphones range has you covered for that, too, because not all models about that authentic studio design. With an improved 12-hour battery life, you're all set for multiple workouts packed with hours of adrenaline-pumping tunes.

If you'd prefer a true-wireless upgrade though, then you may want to consider the new PowerBeats Pro that we mentioned earlier in this article.

The Beats EP headphones are the 'cheap' option in the range

The Beats EP headphones are the cheapest on-ear headphones in the Beats by Dre lineup and are a fine place to start if you've had your eye on the colorful stylings for a while. They're wired via a 3.5mm jack, but at least you'll never have to worry about them running out of battery juice.

The cheapest AirPod prices, sales, and deals in January 2020

If you're looking for the best AirPods prices, you've come to the right place, because we have the best Apple AirPods deals listed below. And If you're looking for the latest prices for the all-new AirPods Pro instead, then we've got you covered for the fancier noise-canceling headphones from Apple.

We're all about ditching those irritating cables to charge our devices, so we've found the latest discounted prices for the Apple AirPods with the wireless charging case too. It costs a little more, but we think it's worth it to be honest.

It's actually pretty rare to find Apple's wireless earbuds on sale, simply because they are one of the most in-demand items in the world of tech. In fact, they still sell out on a regular basis, so if you see an AirPods price, you like, don't think about it for long.

That's right, every time there's a decent AirPods deal, they get snapped up quickly, which isn't great news for those of you looking for a big discount. The AirPods' price is undeniably high, but we're in familiar territory here given Apple's reputation for premium items with the cost to match.

If you've picked up a modern iPhone that's dumped the traditional headphone jack, the Apple AirPods rank amongst the best earphones to pair with your new phone. Although, as they're Bluetooth, you can pair them with plenty of other mobile phones too and even laptops. If you're thinking of getting a new phone too, check out the latest offers below.

apple airpods pro prices deals

The latest Apple AirPods Pro prices

The new Apple AirPods Pro headphones are finally here and we expect them to be one of the season's hottest items. The Apple AirPods Pro price starts at $249 / £249 | AU$399 and they are out now.

That's quite the jump in price compared to the regular AirPods, but the AirPods Pro are the first AirPods to include active noise-canceling technology to keep outside distractions away from your music which is excellent for those noisy commutes or keeping your concentration going at work. That being said, there is a mode you can activate which allows some outside noise to filter through, which is useful is you prefer being able to hear things like traffic when running/cycling/walking or someone calling your name in the office.

The AirPods Pro are also water and sweat resistant making them much better suited to the gym than the standard AirPods and they come with multiple tips so you can adjust to the best fit for you. The water resistance is IPX4 level so we're talking the odd splash and light rain rather than full-on immersion.

The new Apple AirPods Pro ship with a wireless charging case as standard. There is no cheaper version with a standard charging case, unlike the regular AirPods that give buyers the option of both.

Want to know more about these headphones? Take a look at our AirPods Pro review.

The latest AirPods prices and deals

Directly below you'll find the latest options to order the newest 2019 upgrade of the standard AirPods that were released in early 2019. The new AirPods cost $159 / £159 / AU$249, which is the same launch price as the original ones - so we're a little surprised they didn't cost a bit more given the improvements.

Compared to the older model the visual design remains the same. But inside you get a faster H1 processor chip, 50% more talk time and hands-free Siri interactions. So seeing as the older models never really came down in price, the new 2019 AirPods are the best option to buy right now. Look out for these features in the description, to make sure you're getting the newest versions. This model comes with the standard charging case, but we've found some deals for the wireless charging case model further down this page too.

Check out our full verdict on the 2019 model with our Apple AirPods review.

cheap apple airpods deals prices

2019 AirPods with wireless charging case

The 2019 upgrade of the Apple AirPods are also available with a wireless charging case. They cost a bit more with prices starting at $199 / £199 / AU$319, but wireless charging is a super convenient feature. The actual AirPods themselves are the same as the ones we mentioned above, so the case is the only difference between the two.

Just pop the your AirPods into the snug charging case, close the lid and put it on a Qi-certified wireless charging pad (sold separately) and that's it. Apple cancelled the release of its own bespoke wireless charging pad, the Apple AirPower, which would have allowed for simultaneous charging of your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. But at least third-party pads are significantly cheaper than that one would have been.

What about the original 2016 Apple AirPods?

These models have been discontinued and phased out at most stores now. On the rare occasions that we do spot unused stock units, they're actually the same price as the new and improved 2019 versions.

Short version: get the 2019 models instead via one of the deals in the comparison chart above. To be sure they are the new ones, look out for H1 chip and hands-free Siri functionality in the description if the title doesn't say something along the lines of '2019' or 'latest/newest version'.

How much are AirPods?

The official AirPods' price is $159 in the US and £159 in the UK and $249 in Australia. So you shouldn't pay any more. Although, we have seen some stores cheekily push the price up when stock thins out. If you're looking for the version with the wireless charging case, then prices shoot up to around $199 in the US and £199 in the UK.

Expect the usual outlets to charge closer to the MSRP and, better yet, potentially dip below it around the key shopping seasons. Fingers crossed we don't have to wait long for some proper Apple AirPod sales though!

As an alternative, there are lots of wireless earphone and headphone deals in our Beats headphone deals page and other brands are covered in our wireless headphone deals page.

Should I wait for a cheaper AirPods deal?

You might be waiting a while for seriously big discounts. Last year around Black Friday, Walmart knocked off, wait for it, about $7 and it was one of the most popular deals we highlighted in our extensive roundups of the hottest offers. We saw similar tiny discounts in the UK too.

Things have actually been better this year though with much better deals available in various regions. We're regularly seeing discounts of $15/£20, so you should be able to beat the recommended asking price to be honest.

The best Nintendo 3DS prices and deals in January 2020

If you're looking for the best Nintendo 3DS prices or New 2DS XL deals, you've come to the right place. The super popular handheld console is coming to the end of its run nowadays, so deals can be a bit thin on the ground at most retailers as they tend to be stocking Nintendo Switch deals instead nowadays.

However, our price comparison technology checks the prices from all reliable online retailers every few hours to make sure the prices are up to date!

Nintendo has long been boss of the handheld market, but the fact it continues to be so successful in a market now dominated by smartphones is impressive and we're bound to see it rock the handheld scene with some seasonal deals too. The 3DS software lineup features some of the best first-party Nintendo titles ever and you can always check out our pick of the best Nintendo 3DS games.

Nintendo's latest handheld, the 'New 2DS XL', is a welcome no nonsense handheld. On this page we're displaying the best 2DS XL, 2DS and new 3DS XL deals around. Older models are very hard to get a hold of nowadays and prices have shot up disproportionately.

A note on chargers

For reasons known only to Nintendo, most 3DS consoles do not come with a mains charger. So if you're in the market for 3DS and don't already have a compatible charger (for an older model maybe?) then you'll need to buy a new one. This is especially important if you're buying a 3DS as a Christmas gift.

On the plus side the New 2DS XL and older slate-styled 2DS do come with a charger. We've included some handy links to some 3DS charger deals below (don't forget to check it's compatible with your type of 3DS).

The best Nintendo New 2DS XL deals

This is the newest member of Nintendo's Nintendo's wildly popular handheld. Unlike the original 2DS' wedge-like design, the clamshell form returns, which should be much more appealing to older gamers. The 3D tech has been dropped, but you're getting the fantastic XL screen along with the upgraded tech of the 'New' 3DS models. This is considerably cheaper than the New 3DS XL too.

Cheapest 3DS deals

The best Nintendo New 3DS XL deals...

If the standard New 3DS is a bit small for you, then take a look at the New 3DS XL which is perfect for gamers with larger hands or anyone that fancies a larger screen. Look out for some special edition New 3DS XL models listed below this comparison chart too.

2ds deals

The best Nintendo 2DS deals...

If the 3D aspect and the clamshell look isn't for you you can get a Nintendo 2DS for cheaper. The 2DS is a great way of entering Nintendo's handheld family without spending much money, but we're really talking to kids and parents here. Parents of clumsy children have praised the flat design that removes the need for those pesky breakable hinges of the original models.

It's that excellent lineup of games that makes it even easier to recommend the 2DS. With a generation of kids familiarising themselves with quick and easy games like Angry Birds, it's important for Nintendo to show them how much better gaming can be. The 2DS is a hell of a lot sturdier than a smartphone or tablet too.

The cheapest Nintendo Switch bundle deals and prices in January 2020

Nintendo Switch bundles are running light this week, after the holiday sales wiped stock across the US and UK. Accordingly, we're seeing a few bundles kicking about some select stores but at this point in the year you'll be lukcy to grab one before it, too, runs out of stock. That said, we're still seeing some great prices on memory card bundles in the US and some extra savings on Nintendo Switch games and accessories in the UK.

Most of the best offers nowadays are bundling the latest version of the console with critically-acclaimed titles, cash-saving memory cards, accessory packs, and memberships. We're here to help find the best ones for you - the bundles that represent the highest value for money.

The new version of the console has an improved battery (more on that below) and there's now another option with the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite. This cheaper model doesn't come with a dock or removable controllers and can only be played in handheld mode but offers a considerable chunk off the price tag. We'll show you where to get your Nintendo Switch Lite orders below too.

The updated version of the original Nintendo Switch is now being rolled out with an improved battery. That's the only change, but prices are generally the same as the older model. The old version model number was HAC-001 and the box featured a lifestyle image with a hand grabbing the console. While the new model number is HAC-001(-01) and the box has an all-red background and no hand.

We're listing all of the best Nintendo Switch sales right here and we're always on the lookout for the best bundles with extra games, controllers and other accessories so we can share them with you while they're hot. Scroll past the bundles on this page and we'll show you prices on extra Joy-Con and Pro controllers and Nintendo Switch memory cards too. If you want to play online multiplayer and get other benefits like free games you'll want to pick up a Nintendo Switch Online subscription deal.

If you're looking for another dose of Nintendo's handheld happiness then maybe you want to consider a cheap 3DS deal. We also have a dedicated page of Nintendo Switch prices for our Australian readers.

The Nintendo Switch Lite was recently released at just $199.99/£199.99. That's $100/£80 less than the original Switch console. If you want to play games on the TV as well, you should go for the standard Nintendo Switch instead as the Lite is only playable in handheld mode.

The Nintendo Switch Lite comes in multiple colour options. You can pick one up now in turquoise, gray and yellow. There will also be a special edition Zacian & Zamazenta Edition released on November 8 to celebrate the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield. It doesn't come with the game, but doesn't cost anything extra either. If you want to learn more about the console and see prices for every individual color and bundle, check out our Nintendo Switch Lite prices and deals guide.

The latest cheap Nintendo Switch deals

Want to know where to buy a Nintendo Switch? Check out our comparison charts and the latest bundle highlights with extra games and accessories below for the best deals. On its own, the MSRP/RRP Nintendo Switch price is $299 in the USA and £279 in the UK, so you don't want to pay more than that unless you're getting some extras.

We've highlighted our picks of the best and cheapest Nintendo Switch bundles below. Just be aware that many game bundles at quieter times of the year don't really offer much of a discount over buying the items separately. We'll steer you clear of console bundles that actively charge you more than the regular combined MSRP (not cool, guys!).

The UK scene for discounted Nintendo Switch deals is usually quite competitive thanks to the large number of retailers trying to get your business. In these early days of 2020, however, stock of the Nintendo Switch system is exceedingly low. You'd be hard pressed to find a standard Switch console for the usual £279 retail price, let alone a bundle. The Switch Lite, however, is seeing some decent bundles this week, so we've met you in the middle with a selection of these deals as well as some top cheap game discounts we've found from across the web.

As with any new console we imagine you're wanting to know a bit more about the console before you put any money down. So in addition to finding the best Nintendo Switch bundle deals, we're going to help bring in answers to the burning questions.

Nintendo Switch Joy-con controller deals

What are the Joy-Con controllers?

The Joy-Con controller is actually a pair of controllers that attach to the sides the the Nintendo Switch when not in use or when playing in tablet form away from the TV. When playing the Nintendo Switch on the TV, you can remove them and play with one in each hand. The left hand gets a controller with an analogue stick and d-pad, the right hand handles the one with a second analogue and the usual A, B, X and Y face buttons. Or you and a friend can use one each in multiplayer games with the d-pad doubling up as impromptu face buttons.

You get a pair with the console, but you might want to buy more to allow extra players to get involved in games like Mario Kart 8, FIFA 19 and many more. Or maybe you just fancy some different colors for your own use.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Grip controller

What's the Joy-Con Grip controller?

The Joy-Con Grip is an additional accessory that joins the two Joy-Con controllers together, forming something something a bit more solid for you to hold thanks to the extended handles and plastic block between the two sides. The square dimension form-factor may remind older gamers of the Dreamcast controller, while everyone else will mainly be thinking how it resembles an odd-looking dog face. Nintendo is providing one in the box with the Nintendo Switch, so you won't have to buy one separately. This won't charge your controller though and doesn't have a battery pack.

You won't actually need a Nintendo Switch Pro controller to play any games, so don't feel pressured in to buying one. The Nintendo Switch Pro controller is a more traditional-style pad and launched alongside the Nintendo Switch. Prices aren't cheap though, starting around $69.99/£64.99. There's no sign of a Nintendo Switch Premium Edition console with one included either.

Do I need to buy extra controllers for multiplayer on Nintendo Switch?

Possibly not! Remember how the Joy-Con controller splits in two? Turn them sideways and you get two basic controllers, each with their own analogue stick and face buttons - the d-pad acts as face functions on the left controller. We've seen 2K's NBA series, Snipper Clips, FIFA 19, and Mario Kart being used this way for local multiplayer in both docked and tablet modes. So you get multiplayer functionality straight out of the box with no additional purchase required.

However, if you want to play four-player games, then you're going to need to invest in an extra pair of Joy-Con controllers or some Pro controllers. We'd buy the Joy-Cons as a pair (see our comparison chart above) as you'll save a bit of cash over buying them separately. Better yet, if your friends own a Switch, ask them to bring their controllers to the party!

Super Mario Odyssey deals

This has been one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch so far and an absolute must for Mario and platforming fans. Like Zelda below though, this being a first-party Nintendo title, it's taking forever to go down in price. It's slowly happening though, so we've rounded up the cheapest Super Mario Odyssey prices for you below. If you're not getting this game in a bundle, we'd strongly advise picking it up separately as soon as possible.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild deals

The reviews have heaped huge praise upon this eagerly awaited launch title, making it an essential purchase for any Nintendo Switch buyer. As with any new console, the prices of the big games can be more expensive than usual. We've shopped around for you though and have found the best prices for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch. Take a look below.

With only 32GB of internal storage, you'll be wanting to pick up a cheap memory card or two for your new Nintendo Switch for any digital purchases or the inevitable game-fixing patches. Don't fret though, they're actually surprisingly cheap, with even 64GB ones coming in at under £20/$25.

What memory cards does the Nintendo Switch need? Those will be Micro SD cards also known as, depending on their size, as MicroSDHC (up to 32GB) or MicroSDXC (up to a huge 2TB soon). Nintendo also has their own branded cards, but you'll be paying more just for a label. So for now, we'd take a look at this range of cheap MicroSDXC Nintendo Switch-friendly cards.

Sky Q HDR might not arrive until late 2020, more than two years late

If you've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of HDR (High Dynamic Range) on Sky Q since it was first mentioned in February 2018, then we've got some bad news: you're going to be waiting a while yet.

A message posted on the Sky Community forum by a Sky employee, and spotted by Forbes, puts the launch date as late 2020 at the earliest – so we might not even see the feature launch until next year.

Community Manager Kei says Sky has "pushed [HDR] back whilst we work on other priorities", and it doesn't sound as though the feature is going to climb back up that list of priorities again very quickly.

HDR, as seen on services like Netflix, balances colour so that details are retained in the darkest and lightest parts of the frame – colours shouldn't get washed out with brightness or lost in darkness.

The waiting game

Sky Q HDR was announced by Sky, along with Spotify integration and a lot more 4K UHD content, near the start of 2018. Those other features have arrived now but we're still waiting on the HDR.

We later heard that HDR would be arriving on Sky Q at some point in 2019, but that deadline has now passed. It remains to be seen whether HDR will arrive on the service during 2020.

It's possible that Sky's decision to put HDR lower down in its list of priorities is based on user feedback – there just might not be as much demand for it from customers compared with other features.

And Sky has been busy pushing out other improvements to Sky Q in the last couple of years, including Netflix integration, an upgraded set of parental controls, support for Dolby Atmos audio, revamped mobile apps, and more.
