OnePlus 6T official with in-display fingerprint sensor, bigger battery, and smaller notch

OnePlus's latest smartphone is now official.

The OnePlus 6T was revealed today at an event in New York City, and the updated handset offers a few improvements over the OnePlus 6 that launched earlier this year. Not only is the OP6T's display larger — it's a 6.41-inch 2280x1080 AMOLED panel vs the OP6's 6.28-inch 2280x1080 screen — but it's also got a smaller waterdrop-style notch at the top of its screen that ought to be more palatable to all of the notch haters out there.

Another improvement with the OnePlus 6T is its in-display fingerprint sensor. While the OnePlus 6 had a fingerprint reader on its backside, the OP6T builds its fingerprint sensor into the screen so that you don't have to reach around to the back of the device to unlock it.

Inside the OnePlus 6T is a Snapdragon 845 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of built-in storage. The OP6T touts a dual rear camera setup with 16MP and 20MP sensors, similar to the OnePlus 6. OnePlus has packed several camera features into its new phone, including OIS, EIS, 480fps slow-mo video capture, and Studio Lighting, a feature that'll detect a human face in the frame and adjust lighting to simulate professional lighting. There's also Nightscape, which uses HDR algorithms to improve the quality of low-light photos. What's more, OnePlus says that it's bringing Nightscape to the OnePlus 6.

The battery powering the OnePlus 6T is a 3700mAh battery pack, which is an upgrade over the 3300mAh battery found in the OnePlus 6T. There's also a USB-C port and fast charging support when you need to refill that battery. And while there's no 3.5mm headphone jack to be found here, OnePlus has said that it'll include a USB-C-to-3.5mm adapter with the OnePlus 6T.

The software on the OnePlus 6T will be OxygenOS running below Android 9.0 Pie. OnePlus says that it's worked to make a lot of improvements with this new version of OxygenOS, including Full Screen Gestures 2.0 to help you move quickly throughout the OS. The company also touts that it's made more than 500 targeted optimizations to make its software better.

The OnePlus 6T will be available beginning on November 1. Not only will it be sold unlocked by OnePlus, but the OP6T will be offered by T-Mobile, which is the first time that a OnePlus phone will be sold by a U.S. carrier. The OP6T will be available in more than 5,600 T-Mobile stores, which means you'll have a chance to try before you buy.

The other major U.S. carrier news is that the OnePlus 6T is compatible with Verizon, which makes it the first OnePlus phone to work on Verizon. While Verizon won't be selling the OP6T itself, you will be able to buy an unlocked model from OnePlus and put your Verizon SIM card into it.

Pricing for the OnePlus 6T will begin at $549 for the model with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of built-in storage, and a glossy Mirror Black finish. It'll go up to $579 for the 8GB/128GB model in glossy Mirror Black or matte Midnight Black, while the top-end model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will cost $629 and will be available in Midnight Black.

If you're a T-Mobile customer interested in the OnePlus 6T or you're thinking about switching to T-Mo for the device, you should know that T-Mobile is offering a trade-in deal for it. Just trade in one of more than 30 eligible phones and you can get $300 off the OnePlus 6T. The list of devices eligible for trade-in looks like this:

So there's the OnePlus 6T. While it's not a huge change from the OnePlus 6 that launched earlier this year, it does have some solid improvements that make it a better device, like the smaller notch and the larger battery. The launch on T-Mobile and support for Verizon are both huge, too, and should help to expose OnePlus to many new people in the U.S.

Now that it's official, what do you think of the OnePlus 6T? Will you be buying one?
